If you’re anything like me, taking career risks can be great, but you inevitably let fear enter the equation! If you are new to acting, your first audition, or your first day on set is sure to be daunting. For some it can be paralyzing. Today, I want to take you through an exercise that will help you overcome your fear and enjoy the freedom and joy that acting can bring in 3 easy steps:

unnamed

1. Sit down with a journal (I always like the process of putting pen to paper, it’s good to give your fingers a break from keyboards and smart phones) and think about what may be causing you anxiety. Do you fear rejection? Are you scared of the unknown? Are financial constraints holding you back from going all-in with acting?
2. Next, think about all the pleasure you receive from acting. Write down the joy it brings. Do you love the thrill of being in front of a large crowd? Are you most happy when you are freely able to express emotion? Do you thrive on the escapism of playing different characters?
3. Lastly, consider all the pleasure you would miss out on if you didn’t take chances in the acting industry. Is it worth not enduring the pain and fear? Are you ok with not experiencing the applause?

These 3 easy steps are a quick and excellent way to work through your doubts and get motivated by results. Don’t let the fear become overwhelming. Your audience awaits you: now it’s time to take the plunge. We’re here to help you every step of the way.
