We have a rising star amongst us at ClaimFame! Meet Ethan Thompson — a singer-songwriter who was recently featured as one of the top 70 contestants on “American Idol.”
Ethan, when did you start performing?
I have been performing since I was about 5. I started with piano, then voice, then guitar and now I do all of them.
Where does your passion for singing stem from?
My passion stems from the energy that connects us all. When I am singing I feel a bond between myself and anyone who is listening. For one moment everyone understands each other and can be at peace with whatever is happening in their lives.
How did you get started in the business?
I got my start by playing solo gigs around Montana, which eventually turned into me playing in a band and winning the Folgers Jingle Contest in 2010!
What is your ultimate goal in the entertainment business?
My ultimate goal is to be able to make a living off music. Whether I am writing, singing, recording, producing or playing.
Tell us about how you got started on “American Idol”?
A fan recommended I try out during a show in Boston.
What was the experience like on “Idol”? Are people as wild in person as they appear in front of the judging panel?
It was a great experience! Everyone who works on that show makes you feel like you are part of the family. There was no aggression between contestants and everyone was there to make music. Obviously, there were high pressure situations, but it’s mostly the anticipation that gets to you. Once you are on stage it’s just about doing your thing and having a good time.
What do you think the advantages are to being on a reality TV show?
I’d say meeting people and having fans discover you.
Do you think reality TV has made fame more accessible or is it just as difficult now to break into the industry?
How do you really describe a true “break” into the industry? It seems like if you want to be a part of the industry there is no stop. Even top artists have to break back into the industry with every new hit they make. We have to do it for the sake of loving what we do. It’s not an easy path, but it sure gives back.
