Get the Part! 4 Insider Tips to Help You Ace Your Next Audition

ClaimFame Career Coach Mason O’Brien reveals 4 insider audition tips:

Today, I want to break down the audition process: I am dying to share some easy tips and shifts that will help you land that starring role. As an actor you are going on hundreds of auditions, even multiple auditions a day. It’s easy to pick up bad habits or forget the basics when you are waiting your turn at yet another casting call. So, I want to help YOU get motivated and put your best foot forward to ACE that next audition:

1. Be Professional – Seems easy right? In theory, you know professionalism is of the utmost importance. However, when you see friends or even competition at your audition chatter as well as cattiness often ensues. Take the high road, be courteous, and read privately until your name is called. Oh, and also, be 15 minutes early…Casting Directors are always watching.

2. Get Familiar – Whatever you’re auditioning for, know the material! Find out who is directing, the back-story of the play, or what the product is in the commercial. Being educated will make you feel more confident and signals to the casting director that you are serious!

3. Dress the Part – Look like a million bucks when you walk through the audition door. When you look great, you feel great, and you perform better! Put together a business casual outfit that matches your personality. DO NOT go the costume route. Casting directors want to remember your performance, not your crazy get-up. Bright colors (no white), simple patterns, and clean lines look great on camera.

4. Pay Attention to Details – Read the audition information carefully and follow directions. Make sure you arrive prepared for whatever Casting Directors have requested. While I know some of you like a little creative freedom, those who readily provide what is needed are looked at as more suitable for the part.

I would love to hear from you! What tips do you have for the audition process? What has been your key to success with Casting Directors? Share your stories below!
