Five New TV Shows We’re Excited for This Summer

1. Welcome to Sweden (NBC)


Premise: “Comedy series following Bruce Evans, a celebrity accountant who moves to Sweden with his girlfriend, Emma, who is pursing a prestigious banking position. Moving halfway around the world presents a series of unique adjustments for Bruce as he struggles to make friends and get to know Emma’s family.”



2. Almost Royal (BBC America)


Premise: “Georgie (Ed Gamble) and Poppy Carlton (Amy Hoggart) are heirs to Caunty Manor, a large country estate in Norfolk, England, where they have enjoyed privileged lives as distant descendants of the British Royal Family. Georgie and Poppy have never worked a day in their lives, and they have agreed to have a camera crew follow them on a tour of the United States of America.”


3. Crossbones (NBC)


Premise: “Arrgh you ready for another pirate show? In his first regular series role, John Malkovich plays the legendary Blackbeard (with a white goatee!) in this fictionalized account of the notorious pirate’s life. Like Black Sails, the series from Neil Cross (Doctor Who) is set around New Providence Island with swashbucklers fighting over the key to a treasure. Blackbeard will come up against Tom Lowe (Richard Coyle), a sly physician tasked with taking out Blackbeard. David Hoflin, Yasmine Al Massri, Tracy Ifeachor and Chris Perfetti co-star.”


4. The Leftovers (HBO)


Premise: “From Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof, this drama is an adaption of author Tom Perrotta’s novel of the same name and begins three years after two percent of the world’s population disappears without explanation. Those who remain struggle to discover the truth about what happened. Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, and Liv Tyler star.”



5. Legends (TNT)


Premise: “This action drama from Homeland and 24 producer Howard Gordon stars Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) as a deep-cover operative for the FBI who possesses the uncanny skill to transform himself into a different person for each assignment. But things get kind of Bourne Identity when a stranger suggests he may not even be the man he thinks he is. Ali Larter, Morris Chestnut, and Tina Majorino also star.”
