During a coaching session yesterday, my client mentioned that he missed an audition having not checked his email. I felt bad that an opportunity he had been excited for was missed. However, I was also intrigued to find a solution to make sure this situation didn’t happen again. Unfortunately, everything in the entertainment business moves quick. This means you need to move fast as well! Casting directors, production crews, agents and managers always want things NOW. Here are three tips to give them what they want:
Set Alarms – There is no need to miss an email in today’s tech filled world. But if you like to live wild and free set reminders throughout the day to check your email. Make a plan to peruse your inbox at 9 AM, 1 PM, 5 PM and 9 PM. This way you will never miss an important message and you can reply in a timely manner.
Make a Timeline – If you are applying to your dream casting call, create a timeline for yourself of how the project will unfold. By setting benchmarks for yourself you can stay on track and make sure you are meeting all deadlines.
Be Proactive – No one likes to be bombarded with emails and phone calls after you submit your resume. However, I think a gracious follow up is more than appropriate when you are trying to land a big role. If you haven’t heard back on your submission after one week, I recommend sending an email or making a phone call to confirm they received your headshot and resume. You can also ask on the status of your application and if you can provide them with any further details. Simple, smart and actionable!
Hope these tips help and we can all stay ahead of the casting game!
