Kerry grew up in the South Bronx of New York City, daughter to a real estate broker and college professor. Kerry took lots of ballet lessons as a young child…and guess what? Her childhood dream was to work with Shamu at Sea World! So, how to Kerry transition from her South Bronx Shamu dreams to becoming one of Hollywood’s hottest film & TV stars?

After attending the prestigious Spence School in Manhattan where Kerry starred in school theater productions, she was offered a full scholarship to GW University where she continued to pursue acting. In 2000, Kerry made her film debut in Our Song, but it was only a year later that she wowed audiences in her performance in Save the Last Dance.

The true turning point of her career was when she was offered the role of Della Rae Robinson in the 2004 Oscar winning film Ray, alongside Jamie Foxx. After that film, she was cast in tons of big name productions, including The Last  King of Scotland, Django Unchained, and For Colored Girls, by Tyler Perry. But it wasn’t until 2012 that Kerry moved her acting career from the movie screen to TV screens when she accepted the role of Olivia Pope on Scandal.

What’s next for Washington? She’s slated to star in the upcoming Warner Bros. thriller Unforgettable alongside Kate Hudson. We’re sure Kerry’s performance will be exactly that…unforgettable!

So, what can we take away from Kerry’s story? It takes hard work, commitment, patience, and a whole lot of talent to go far in this industry. Don’t waste any time! Get started today by browsing and applying to all our latest casting calls…and soon we’ll be writing about YOU.
