61ST PRIMETIME EMMY® AWARDS

Oscar Round Up: Winning Streak Continues for Big Stars

Neil Patrick Harris and the Oscar’s closed out award season last night in grand style. NPH opened the show with a perfectly choreographed number and continued to crack jokes all night. Powerful speeches from J.K. Simmons, Common and John Legend, Graham Moore and Patricia Arquette took the show beyond the usual “thank you’s”. Glam gowns and colorful tuxedos were popular on the red carpet with stand outs from Lupita N’yongo and Jared Leto.

Though the theatrics and speeches were exciting there were no real surprises when it came to the winners. Eddie Redmayne, Julianne Moore, J.K. Simmons and Patricia Arquette continued their winning streak in their respective categories. The academy also proved that they are a bit self indulgent by voting for “Birdman” as Best Picture. There’s nothing better than watching a movie about yourself right? Despite the lack of variety, it was exciting to see “The Grand Budapest Hotel” win so many creative honors.

Here’s your list of winners:

Best Picture: “Birdman”

Best Actor: Eddie Redmayne

Best Actress: Julianne Moore

Best Supporting Actor: J.K. Simmons

Best Supporting Actress: Patricia Arquette

Best Original Song: Glory

Best Animated Featured Film: “Big Hero 6”

Best Director: Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu
