Brush Your Shoulders Off: 3 Ways to Deal With Criticism in Showbiz

How do you deal with criticism? As an actor, negative feedback is sometimes inevitable. Not everyone will be impressed by your talents and will have their own opinions. While this can be very disheartening, critiques can be the catalyst for improvement. Today, let me coach you on three ways to focus on the positives of a bad review:

1. Listen Objectively: People love to hear themselves talk and some are more opinionated than others. If you feel happy with your performance than accept their criticism with grace but don’t let it bring you down. Never let one person make you doubt yourself and your talents.

2. Take Notes: If the criticism is coming from someone you respect and can learn from make sure you take note of what they are saying. Write down their suggestions and go home and work on their ideas. It could lead to a whole new perspective on your character and your career.

3. Give Thanks: If someone is bold enough to criticize your performance it is most likely because they are looking out for you and want you to succeed. Accept their critique with thanks and gratitude. You can only become a better person and better performer by learning from experience.
